Well, based on Anna's behavior after the kiss, the "I love you too" had to be purely sisterly. Anything else would be so cruel and evil that Anna should be following Elsa into the afterlife.
So, this is the 2nd "Elsa suicide" story that I have read in the past week (purely by accident). Despite being very well written, I just can't get on board with the portrayal. Elsa has always struck me as someone who would (and did) do everything for her sister, and would never subject her to that level of pain. Until the end, I actually had some hope that there would be a happy ending, but no such luck. I knew that was over when Anna passed up a Disney World trip.
Author's Response:
i think you're absolutely right in saying that elsa would do anything for anna. however, as we've seen in the movie, elsa is also very good at doing what she thinks is 'right' for everyone, and it's almost impossible to convince her otherwise. in this story, i tried to look at events purely from elsa's perspective. she can never admit to anna that she's in love with her, because acceptance or even recirpocation is, in her mind, absolutely impossible. but the feelings are still there, and she is around anna every day of every week; and elsa is also very good at it's blaming herself. and eventually it reaches a breaking point where she just can't go on any longer. she only sees two options: admit to anna, or end it all. and after years of self-deprication and feeling guilty and inadequate, she's got herself convinced that her dying would hurt anna less than her feelings would. from there on out, everything snowballs into a perfect storm of misunderstandings, things that were said but shouldn't have been...
that all being said, i completely understand if my story just doesn't 'work' with you. i know my own special brand of angst can be...hard to digest for some people^^
what i am interested in, though: how did anna mean her 'I love you too' at the end, in your opinion?
This is the first time I've read this story but damn it's just so.... sad. I'm so used to seeing Elsa and Anna be happy and the stories ending on a good/nearly good note, but... damn
You did a brilliant job with this, thank you
Okay, I loved this story the first time I saw it on one of the other sites. It's so freaking sad though (but that's one of the things I like about it). ;_; I am a sucker for sad shiz.
Poor Elsa...
I'm REALLY glad I found it again because reading through it once more, I discovered a new addition to my ever growing "Elsa Gets Slapped By Anna" list. Yasss!
Thanks for writing this!
Author's Response:
elsa needs a good slap every now and then. she can be so fucking dense >_>
